CMR collects over 100 toys to Benefit the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program
The CMR Community Involvement Committee led a toy drive to benefit the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program in December 2013. Thanks to the generosity of our team, we collected over 100 toys that were distributed to Bay Area families in need of a little joy for the holidays. We greatly appreciate SFFD for sending a representative along with his specially-outfitted truck to collect our donation.
The San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program, run by the SF Fire Fighters Union, Local 798, is the city's largest and the nation's oldest program of its kind. Since 1949, it has evolved from a few firefighters repairing broken toys and bikes for 15 families to over 300 firefighters and friends volunteering their time to distribute over 200,000 toys to more than 40,000 disadvantaged children year-around. Besides helping individual families in need, the Toy Program serves many community organizations, including shelters for abused women and children, inner-city schools, neighborhood groups, children's cancer wards, and pediatric AIDS units, and additionally responds on a year-round basis to displaced children who become victims of fires, floods, and other such disasters.
Dependent solely on donations, the SF Firefighters Toy Program places collection barrels at retail establishments, street fairs, Christmas parties, and many other functions. For more information or to make a donation, please call (415) 777-0440.
